Brain Matures More Slowly in Those With ADHD
Researchers at the NIH have learned that the brain matures more slowly (three years, on average) in those with ADHD. Peak thickness of the brain was reached at age 7.5 in those without ADHD but at age 10.5 in those with ADHD. Delays in maturity are most prominent in the cortex, which is important for the ability to control thinking, attention and planning. NIH has a movie showing the relative differences.
