Yes, it's true. The President-Elect of the American Psychiatric Association receives pharma money too. And now Senator Grassley is after the APA. See the article in the NYT.
Frankly, psychiatrists are easy targets for pharma. They are generally lower paid than other medical specialties. Therefore, it is no wonder that pharmaceutical companies target them. Also, with insurance companies paying less for psychotherapy visits and wanting instant fixes, providing medication is another way to provide the instant fix that we Americans need.
However, there must be a way to limit pharma moneys and still provide psychiatrists the information they need....
