Black Box Warnings Influence Prescribing
A new study in today's Archives of Psychiatry indicates that black box warning periods for antidepressants influenced prescribing habits of physicians. The FDA warnings followed a significant increase in the prescribing of antidressants. After the warnings, this growth tapered off, although total prescriptions remained equivalent. The group most affected was patients between 6 and 17 years old.
